Is All UV Ink The Same?
The answer to this question requires consideration of two factors:
the ink itself and the company supplying the ink.
The Ink
It is important to realize that the outright cost of a U.V. ink can
be between 4%-8% of a printed job, but the impact of a good or bad
ink can significantly reduce or add to the cost of a printed job.
An example might be U.V. ink’s effect on paper waste; both make
ready and running waste. Getting quickly to color and holding that
color throughout the run, even as ambient pressroom conditions
change is one measure of a quality ink.
At Joules Angstrom we pride ourselves on the operating productivity
our products provide to our customers. Some testimonials touting
this benefit have been posted on our website.
Productivity improvements using a higher quality ink are often
overlooked because some printers look first at a price per pound.
If a printer is spending $10 million on paper each year, every 1%
reduction in paper waste is the equivalent of saving $100,000.
Another benefit frequently mentioned by printers using a Joules
Angstrom product is improved mileage resulting from lowering both
water and ink keys on the press without sacrificing quality. Again
our website offers testimonials which comment on lower relationships
of water to ink, which provide a wider operating window for the
pressmen.
Other noted benefits include lower misting with the Joules Angstrom
product thus reducing clean up and running waste. If a printer
spends $300,000 a year on U.V. ink, a 10% mileage improvement is
worth $30,000.
Press speeds are also a variable that is often overlooked in
evaluating an ink. The positive effect of a consistent,
user-friendly ink in the pressroom sometimes goes unnoticed, but we
are frequently complimented on our products performance. We have
found that the Joules Angstrom product will not be a limiting factor
in running a print job.
It has been said many times that Joules Angstrom has the most
consistent U.V. ink in the marketplace. This is because we take
great efforts to eliminate variables in our raw materials and our
production methods. Day after day, batch after batch it’s the same
ink coming into your pressroom. Pressmen have come to expect a high
standard of quality and consistency from Joules Angstrom; and we do
not disappoint.
The Company
Joules Angstrom is engaged exclusively in the Energy Curing Market.
Nothing distracts us from focusing on the U.V./E.B. printer. The
company’s origin dates back to 1999 and has grown substantially,
setting higher sales records each year. Our passion for U.V. is
centered on the customer with state of the art products and
dedicated service.
Although we do provide ink
technical support where needed, Joules Angstrom does not
employ ink technicians who must visit customers and tweak the
inks to fit pressroom conditions. Our inks are press ready and
work with virtually every fountain solution on virtually every
plate, printing press and pressroom condition.
What we offer to differentiate ourselves is a group of press
technicians who will work with our customers in auditing pressroom
operations, assisting in the training of pressmen, and solving
printing problems. Our focus is on your success as a printer.
